We’ll be near Crediton for our fabulous Wool Week - a 5 day homage to wool, where you will learn wool based crafts from 5 fantastic teachers in a beautiful place!  This extravaganza taught by some of the UK’s leading exponents of these crafts is set to become a real Go Deer favourite!  Add to this delicious home cooked food, a lovely swimming pool for achey shoulders after all that crafting and all the fun of doing it with others!

SUNDAY - Spinning with Christine Hart

Super spinner Chris Hart will be with us for the day to introduce us to the ancient art of spinning wool. There is nothing more cathartic than turning a bundle of fluff into a gorgeous hank of wool and this day will get you started. If you already spin, then Chris is a master of art yarn and will get you started on new techniques that you have only dreamed of!

MONDAY - Nuno Felting with Amanda Critchlow

Amanda's work is nature itself. Her delicate felt bowls and felted fabrics just beg to be touched and I was delighted that she was able to teach the art of nuno felting on this day. You will make a nuno pot and will also learn techniques for making fabric suitable for garments.

TUESDAY - Needlefelting with Marion Carbis

We are delighted to welcome Marion from Cornwall to teach with us for the first time. Participants with make a piece based on Marion’s stunning Green Man - an unusual felting project with a lovely twist.

WEDNESDAY - Natural dyeing with Rebecca Connolly.

Dyeing is the age old process of adding colour to all types of textiles. Rebecca will teach you that one of the most abundant sources of dye is the plant kingdom. Roots, berries, bark, leaves and wood can all be used. Learning how to be creative with colours and fabric is a timeless and enjoyable skill. As a knitter, spinner, felter or textile artist, it will open doors onto new realms of possibility!

THURSDAY - Weaving with Rebecca Connolly

We're delighted Rebecca stays with us to teach our last day of Wool Week where the focus will be weaving with a backstrap loom.  Another ancient art, and a fantastic way to end the week,. You might choose to incorporate some of your dyed fibres or wool in your weaving, or indeed any favourite bits you bring with you.

The Barton is made up of two large cottages - the Granary and Brimbles. Both cottages have 5 bedrooms. Classes will take place in the magnificent light sitting room in the Granary which still has the old horse engine, once used for moving grain as a feature. We take over this space for learning in, whilst we relax in the sitting room of Brimbles at the end of the day.

The heated indoor swimming pool is a great place to relax at the end of a day crafting.

As with all our Go Deer courses and retreats we cater for you with home cooked, delicious food, taking your specific likes and dislikes into account.
